Thwarted belongingness may explain the insomnia and suicidal ideation relationship. Insomnia symptoms may be associated with increased loneliness and social isolation. Loneliness and social isolation, in turn, may be related to suicidal thoughts. These relationships appear relevant to military service members and veterans.
