We examined the roles of excretory–secretory products (ESPs) in cholangiocarcinoma. ESPs induced MMP-9 expression and activity in a concentration-dependent manner. ESPs induced MMP-9 expression by enhancing the activity of NF-κB through ERK1/2. ESP-dependent MMP-9 activity may contribute to cholangiocarcinoma progression.
