μXRF is a non-destructive X-ray imaging technique used to find Cl profiles in concrete with minimal sample preparation. The average Cl penetration at comparable depths is similar between profile grinding and μXRF. The apparent Cl diffusion coefficient was on average 30% higher for μXRF than profile grinding. μXRF can be used to image cracks > 100 μm in concrete and their impact on local Cl penetration. μXRF provides important insights into samples not possible with profile grinding.
