Effects of elevation and aspect on the flight activity of two alien pine bark beetles (Coleoptera: Curculionidae, Scolytinae) in recently-harvested pine forests
Elevation and slope aspect influence microclimate and insect phenology and activity. We trapped pine bark beetles along elevation gradients and north vs. south aspects. Overall, trap catch was greater at lower elevations and warmer northerly aspects. This has implications for forest and pest management and offers mitigation options. The results also allow projections of climate change effects on forest invasibility.
