Caseload midwifery – a continuity of care model – seems to be a healthy work-form for midwives who have chosen this work-form. Midwives working in caseload midwifery report significantly lower mean burnout scores than other midwives. Midwives working in caseload midwifery do neither experience high burnout in personal, work-related nor client-related burnout. 20–22% of all of midwives in this study experienced high burnout in personal and work-related burnout and 10% reported high client-related burnout. Midwives in Denmark do not seem to have a high level of burnout compared to Sweden and Australia.
