Improved performance of a symmetrical solid oxide fuel cell by swapping the roles of doped ceria and La0.6Sr1.4MnO4+δ in the electrode

La0.6Sr1.4MnO4+δ is developed as an electrode material by surface modification. Peak power density of 714 mW cm−2 is achieved in H2 at 800 °C. A mechanism is proposed for swapping the role and function of electrode phases.
