Geochemical analyses were performed on Oligocene–Middle Miocene sediments. Chemical weathering and sorting effects are not compatible for discussed boreholes. Felsic sources from Pearl River largely dominated sediment infill of the Baiyun Sag. The indicated Zr enrichment at site 1148 probably resulted from local source supply. Mafic nature of borehole BY6 sediments is likely related to multistage magmatism.
