Occurrence and first molecular characterization of Sarcocystis spp. in wild boars (Sus scrofa) and domestic pigs (Sus scrofa domesticus) in Romania: Public health significance of the isolates
Sarcocystis spp. prevalence in wild boars and domestic pigs of Western Romania is high. Sarcocystis miescheriana was the only identified species. Hosts older than 27 months were significantly higher (p < 0.05) infected. The lack of identification of S. suihominis suggests that the screened animals play a neglected role in the spreading of the zoonotic Sarcocystis infections.
