Avian influenza H7N9 virus has posed a public health concern since 2013.

HA and NA glycosylation may change viral characteristics including transmission.

But, HA glycosylation changes decreased transmission efficiency.

Only a functionally-balanced NA glycosylation could reserve viral transmission.

Glycosylation change may confer benefit to a novel H7N9 strain of pandemic potential.
