Solar photovoltaic (PV) is one of the renewable energy (RE) technologies that offers a fast option for deployment. It is rated according to its maximum DC power output (Wp) which is obtained under Standard Test Condition. However, this is seldom encountered when under actual operating condition where it is sturdily influenced by surrounding climate; hence, it affects performance of the PV module. Soiling is a factor caused by the accumulation of dust and dirt on the PV surface and limiting the penetration of solar energy; hence, reduces the energy output. This paper discusses in details on the types of soiling and presents some mitigation techniques which have been studied and developed. The advantages and disadvantages on the mitigation techniques were also explained. The comparison of each method were simplified and summarized in details into two tables so that they can be a guide in selecting the most appropriate method for soiling mitigation.
