Erosion experiments with bimodal glass-bead beds were conducted in a laboratory flume. We introduce the grain-size ratio RD as a factor influencing bed mobility. The effects of fine fraction and RD on bed mobility and flow field are evaluated. Bed texture influences the near-bed flow velocities and thus erosion. RD plays a fundamental role for bed mobility whereas the fine fraction is secondary.
