Modafinil has different action mechanism compared with previous psychostimulants. Modafinil act on multiple areas of the ascending arousal and attention systems to increase frontal cortical activity. Modafinil proved a superior short-term efficacy over placebo in reduction of ADHD symptoms. Modafinil showed similar safety and tolerability profile compared with placebo. More clinical trial data will be mandatory to support current findings.
