SOC stock changes and CO2 emissions were studied in Southern Italy. A bio-physical model was combined with a spatially explicit database. Arable crops, vines, olives, grasslands and land use changes were considered. Permanent crops contributed to C storage, irrigated tomato led to high C losses. The methodology has proved effective to estimate the C stocks and CO2 emissions.
