Large hydropower dams have become operational in the Upper Mekong Basin. The downstream impacts were estimated using recent observed discharge data. Hydropower operations increased (decreased) dry (wet) season discharges. The discharge impacts were observable as far downstream as in Cambodia. Discharge changes were similar or larger than existing model predictions suggest.
