Predictive medicine aims at characterizing the individual risk of event/disease occurrence. The risk T1DM is predictable by HLA haplotype, family history and autoantibodies assay; no prevention strategy is available. Genetic markers do not remarkably improve the individual risk assessment of T2DM obtained by clinical prediction models. Genetic markers are not useful in predicting chronic diabetic complications.
