Numerical modelling of low-salinity pools off east coast of India during southwest monsoon season is carried out. Coastal orientation plays a major role in the distribution of low salinity pools to an off-shore region. Surface circulation, i.e., weak East India Coastal Current is also responsible for migration of low salinity pool. Low-salinity influx from the huge river system from the north contributes to low salinity pools. The models results and our hypothesis are endorsed by CTD, ARGO and OSCAR currents data.
