Moral fixations: The role of moral integrity and social anxiety in the selective avoidance of social threat

We measure how moral threats and affirmations affect avoidance of social threats. We used eye-tracking and measured individual differences in social anxiety. Avoidance was greater following a moral threat than following a control condition. Moral affirmations reduced avoidance of social threat. This was the case for both high and low socially anxious individuals.
