High 4-hydroxybutyrate monomer accumulation by Cupriavidus sp. transformants is achieved. Mixed precursor substrate strategy exhibited pronounced synergistic effect. Two-fold increase in polyhydroxyalkanoate synthase activity in transformant strains. Ability to maintain high 4-hydroxybutyrate monomer composition in fermenter scale cultivation.
