Silver and titanium dioxide nanoparticle-contaminated biodegradable municipal solid waste was composted.

The presence of either Ag-TiO2NPs or AgNPs did not inhibit the microbial degradation process.

Higher carbon mineralization rates resulted for compost contaminated with NPs.

Nanoparticles will mainly accumulate in soils’ top layers following application of NP-contaminated compost.
