Large magnetocaloric effect at Verwey point in nanocrystalline Fe3O4 thin films

Large magnetocaloric effect has been observed in nanocrystalline Fe3O4 thin films. Maximum entropy change ΔS = 2–12 J/kg K occurred around Verwey transition at 120 K. Magnitude of ΔS is strongly dependent on post thermal treatment on Fe3O4 thin films. This results opens new perspective for NEMS/MEMS devices like cooler on chips.
