Effect of borotitanizing on microstructure and wear behavior of Inconel 625

Powder pack borotitanizing was successfully produces on an Inconel 625 alloy. The boride layers were compact, smooth, crack-free, and free of silicides. After borotitanizing the surface hardness increased up to 3354 HV0.005. Transition in wear behavior was observed with increasing surface hardness. Wear resistance was improved by a factor of 10 with the borotitanizing treatment.
