A mesocosm experiment with 13C-PHE-spiked soil was analyzed by IRMS and NanoSIMS. 40% of 13C-PHE was still in the soil after 21 days but not as the parent compound. Bacterium-like 13C-enriched hotspots were revealed by NanoSIMS close to the roots.
