Brown coal char can be used as top-grade PCI coal substitute. Brown coal char can burn out under mild conditions inlcuding a lower temperature and larger particle size. A minimum 6 wt% volatile content is essential for stable ignition. Gas diffusion resistance is minimal for brown coal char combustion due to the large surface area and porosity.
