A novel C. algeriensis sp. nov. strain TH7C1T was purified (XYN35) and characterized.
The optimum pH and temperature values for activity were pH 11 and 70 °C, respectively.
XYN35 was specific for xylans, followed by soluble oat-spelt and beechwood xylans.
The hydrolysis products from birchwood xylan were xylose, xylobiose, and xylotriose.
XYN35 is a potential strong candidate for application in the pulp bleaching industry.
