Sulfonated zinc aluminate catalyst (SO3H–ZnAl2O4) was synthesized. It showed high acid density (2.10 mmol/g) for esterification of PFAD. The catalytic activity of catalyst was evaluated using microwave reactor. SO3H–ZnAl2O4 catalyst showed recyclability for eight consecutive reaction runs Key fuel properties were examined in accordance with those of standards.
