A CRISPR/Cas9 mediated point mutation in the alpha 6 subunit of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor confers resistance to spinosad in Drosophila melanogaster

The nAChR alpha6 subunit of Drosophila melanogaster has been successfully mutated in vivo by CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing.

We demonstrate that the G275E mutation in Dα6 confers significant resistance to spinosad.

G275E in Dα6 resembles the phenotype reported for this particular mutation in Frankliniella occidentalis.
