Nitrogen status of functionally different forage species explains resistance to severe drought and post-drought overcompensation

文摘
Soil N available to forage species was strongly reduced under drought. Legumes were less N-limited under drought than non-legumes. Symbiotic N2 fixation in legumes was maintained under drought, improving their drought resistance. N fertilisation improved drought resistance of non-legumes. Overcompensation of non-legume yield during post-drought was due to an increase in plant-available soil N.
