A total of 19 new polar I-DBPs were confirmed to be present in drinking water.

NOM aromaticity and pH affected formation of polar I-DBPs and TOI in disinfection.

Formation of the new polar I-DBPs and TOI increased as Cl2 < ClO2 < NH2Cl.

NH2Cl and DON could be nitrogen sources and precursors of new nitrogenous I-DBPs.

The new polar I-DBPs were widely present in tap waters from major cities of China.
