A new approach of synthesis for binary oxyborate Bi2ZnB2O7 (BZBO) was shown. The proper modifications for Pechini method were introduced to improve the synthesis efficiency. SHG effect is strongly dependent on the qualitative/quantitative type of RE-dopant. The relation between the structure of BZBO:RE3+ and its second order nonlinear optical response was discussed.
