New compounds with Co, Ni, Cu and Zn containing norharmane have been prepared. The structure of a Cu(II) compound with norharmane and phenanthroline has been determined. The Cu and Zn compounds show cytotoxic properties in different cancer cell lines. The cytotoxic properties are comparable to cisplatin. The activity of the reported coordination complexes follows the Irving-Williams series.
