We tested the role of coping skills as a mediator of the Therapeutic Education System (TES) effectiveness. TES was associated with higher coping skills scores compared to treatment as usual. Higher coping skills scores were associated with increased abstinence. The effect of TES on abstinence was no longer significant after controlling for coping skills. Our results support the role of coping skills as a mediator of the TES effectiveness.
