The coherence of the electrical signals of the brain (KOG) is a quantitative measure of synchrony involvement of different cortical areas in their functional interactions, providing integrative activity of the brain.

Objective

to determine General and specific EEG characteristics, according to spectral analysis, coherence and capacity in patients with epilepsy elderly. Materials and methods: Studied 140 patients, in the 1st control group of 40 people without neurological diseases. 2nd group: 59 patients with symptomatic epilepsy. 3rd group: 41, consequences of stroke. The average age of the patients of the 1st group was 63.00 years, 2nd group: 62.5, 3rd group of 62.5 years.

Results

Evaluation of the coherence channels: 1 control group, we observed a strong coherent indices only in the alpha range. Significant differences coherence through the channels in the 2nd group with epilepsy: in the delta and theta bands with the formation of interhemispheric connections (T6-P3, T4-T3, P4-O1), with the increase in the number of these relations in the zones T6,T5, F8,P3.

Conclutions

The identified changes in slow-wave activity, with interhemispheric connections in the rear-temporal, parietal and occipital lobes, the presence of pathological changes in the alpha range in patients with epilepsy are specific “marker” epilepsy elderly.
