We examined the extent and nature of teacher–student social network communication during the 2014 Israel–Gaza war.
Adolescents communicated with their teachers via Social Network Sites (SNS) and the main content was ‘emotional support’.
Positive perceptions about this communication were linked to adolescents' tendency to share distress on SNS.
Social rejection was negatively associated with emotional support and positive perceptions about SNS communication.
Our findings suggest that teacher–student SNS communication may significantly contribute to adolescents' resilience.
