Systematic assessment of elements in 5 key lignocellulosic feedstocks during processing. Biorefining: pretreatment, enzymatic treatment, fermentation, upconcentrates Si in the insoluble lignocellulosic fractions. K and Na are solubilized during biorefinery processing of lignocellulosic biomass. Average chemical formula for lignocellulosic matrix and residual lignin: C6H8.4O3.5. X-ray fluorescence is useful for elemental analyses of lignocellulosic biomass.
