Evaluated the effect of salt, temperature and submerged zone on bioretention performance. Full-scale bioretention columns in a controlled 23 full factorial design. Salt mobilizes dissolved Cu and Pb; this effect is mitigated by a submerged zone. Constantly efficient removal of dissolved Cd and Zn and total metals. These results support implementation of bioretention also in areas experiencing cold winters.
