Influence of particle properties and medium on uptake was studied by three methods. Serum protein decreased uptake, except for amine-functionalized particles. Carboxyl- and non-functionalized nanoparticles were preferentially ingested by phagocytes. Analysis of uptake by plate reader needs careful characterization of the dye. For data interpretation combination with microscopy can be useful.
