Oxidation-accelerated crystallization of (GeS2)y(Sb2S3)1-y chalcogenide glasses

Effect of reaction atmosphere on crystallization of (GeS2)y(Sb2S3)1-y glasses was studied. For high Sb2S3 contents the oxygen enhanced defects-based crystal growth. Kinetic behavior and crystal morphologies were similar under both atmospheres. Surface crystallization was confirmed for all studied compositions. Crystal growth rate, rather than viscosity, determines overall influenceability by oxygen.
