Catalytic selective oxidation of vanillyl alcohol to vanillin under mild conditions. Coupling of a solid catalyst with low frequency ultrasonic irradiation in aqueous medium. Nanostructured spinel Co3O4 prepared and characterized before and after reaction. Reaction performed at ambient pressure, low temperature, with H2O2 as oxidant. US-H2O2 process faster and more selective than that performed under silent conditions.
