MOX reduces ethanol intake in both male and female mice without causing any overt toxicity. MOX potentiates ATP-gated P2X4R function and antagonize the inhibitory effects of ethanol on the receptor. At higher doses, MOX has minimal potentiating effect on GABAARs compared to ivermectin.
