The ability of metalloporphyrins and metal phthalocyanines to form coordination assemblies with neutral and negatively charged fullerenes, nitrogen-containing ligands, cations and some anionic ligands can successfully be used in the design of complexes with fullerenes C60, C70 and some fullerene derivatives. Molecular complexes can show promising photophysical properties, and new 蟽-bonded dimeric and coordination structures with fullerene monoanions can form in ionic complexes. The latter complexes show strong magnetic interactions and reversible bond formation accompanied by changes in their optical properties and paramagnetic-diamagnetic transitions. The review summarizes different approaches to the design of fullerene complexes with coordination assemblies of metalloporphyrins and metal phthalocyanines which can be obtained in the crystalline form. Progress in the development of this field of research is discussed.
