Two models are proposed to interpret Approximate Numerical Expressions as intervals. The models combine arithmetical and cognitive characteristics of expressions. Their general underlying principle considers the cognitive salience of numbers. A trade-off is made between interval width and cognitive salience by Pareto frontiers. An experimental validation, based on real data empirically collected, is performed.
