Pichia pastoris was tested for possible use for polyketide production. A complete biosynthetic pathway of citrinin was assembled in P. pastoris. Citrinin was successfully produced upon the substrate methanol in P. pastoris. Citrinin easily degraded under low pH during cell culture.
