Effect of prolonged water stress on essential oil content, compositions and gene expression patterns of mono- and sesquiterpene synthesis in two oregano (Origanum vulgare L.) subspecies
Origanum vulgare essential oil was studied under water stress conditions. Two subspecies (subsp. gracile and virens) were compared. Carvacrol and (Z)-α-bisabolene were characterized as the main components of the essential oils. Different gene expression patterns of components synthesis were detected. OvTPS2 and OvTPS6 controlled the synthesis of carvacrol and (E)-caryophyllene respectively.
