The paper presents complex methodology for the residual fatigue lifetime assessment of a railway axles using fracture mechanics concepts used in Bonatrans Company. The methodology contains: evaluation of the critical crack location on the railway axle surface, evolution of fatigue crack front during the crack propagation, effect of the press-fit loading, effects of variable amplitude loading of the railway axle, retardation effects due to overloads.
