Effects of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) on multixenobiotic resistance (MXR) related efflux transporter activity in zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos
Interaction of PPCPs with in vivo MXR system and in vitro Abcb4 ATPase activity. Isoeugenol inhibited the MXR system at environmentally relevant concentrations. Abcb4 ATPase activity was inhibited by pharmaceuticals and isoeugenol. Some PCPs and simvastatin demonstrated Abcb4 substrate properties. MXR and ATPase assays should be combined to better determine the interaction of PPCPs with ABC proteins.
