A novel catalytic methanotreating process is developed to partially upgrade bitumen. Ag-Ga/ZSM-5 facilitates bitumen partial upgrading under methane. Surface acidity and morphology of support influence the catalytic performance. Active metal loading benefits partial upgrading of bitumen under methane.
