Development of visual working memory and distractor resistance in relation to academic performance

We examined 7- to 12-year-olds’ VWM storage and distractor resistance. VWM storage and distractor resistance reached adult levels at 10 years old. The VWM component contributing to academic performance changed with age. Higher VWM storage and academic scores were linked for 7- to 9-year-olds. Higher distractor resistance and academic scores were linked for 10- to 12-year-olds.
