The employment of FBMC in conjunction with directly modulated lasers is studied. Performance of FBMC is evaluated for long-reach PONs at data rates over 10 Gb/s. A concise definition to FBMC in the framework of PONs is presented. Some of the factors limiting long reach intensity PONs using FBMC are studied.
