Synthesis and characterization of a new uranium metallacyclocumulene (C5Me5)2U(η4-1,2,3,4-PhC4Ph). Synthesis achieved by two methods involving low-valent uranium equivalents. Interesting differences in the ultraviolet and visible spectral region for the homologous metallacyclocumulene complexes, (C5Me5)2An(η4-1,2,3,4-PhC4Ph) (An = Th, U). Metal-ligand bonding interactions between (C5Me5)2An(η4-1,2,3,4-PhC4Ph) potentially engaging the metal f- and d-orbitals to a different extent.
