The behaviour and microstructure of the LB films of two C60 derivatives, dodecylaminofullerene (DAF) and polyhydroxydodecylaminofullerene (PHDAF), have been investigated. The π-A isotherms analysis indicates that the molecular aggregation of these compounds at the air-water interface is decreased compared with that of pure C60 because of appropriate chemical modification. The high-resolution transmission electron micrographs of the LB films showed up well-defined lattice fringes, which implies that the C60 moiety of DAF or PHDAF molecules form hexagonal stacked planar molecular crystals with two-dimensional structure.
